Questions are key in good therapy and coaching.

Here are some answers.

FAQs

Here are the common ones, but please book a free clarity call if you’d like to ask more!

  • Yes. I'm an Accredited EMDR Therapist and work with trauma, PTSD, CPTSD. EMDR can also be really powerful in resolving panic, phobias, attachment anxiety, social anxiety, low self esteem, BDD, depression, addictions, imposter syndrome, eating disorders, self criticism, struggle with boundaries For more info, head to Therapies.

  • EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that helps people process traumatic experiences, distressing memories and patterns that are still affecting them in the present. Find out more about other Therapies we can integrate alongside EMDR to help you heal and grow in transformative ways.

  • My work is integrative, meaning I draw on a range of evidence-based approaches including EMDR, CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Schema Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), AEDP and Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP).

Rather than applying the same approach to everyone, I tailor our work to your specific needs, goals, preferences and life context. I’m here to help you make transformations in a way that’s a really good match for you and your real life situations.

  • Not at all. Most people come to me because they know something needs to change, not because they've researched therapy models.

Part of my role is helping identify which approaches are most likely to support you.

Having said that, if you are in fact coming with a clear sense of the approaches you’d like us to prioritise, perhaps because your previous experience with EMDR, CBT, ACT or IFS etc was helpful, tell me more about what you already know suits you. I’d love to hear about this.

    1. We’ll start by identifying the constructive directions you’d most like to move forward with on your life journey, and the positive qualities you want to develop.

We will then identify the various factors (internal and external) that are holding you back from achieving your aims. These could be self-criticism, hypervigilance, self-doubt, self-sacrifice, impostor syndrome, OCD, insomnia, complex life circumstances.

    2. We’ll collaboratively agree on a framework that will include a sensible priority order, pace and approach to move things forward and we’ll get going with this! We’ll prioritise whatever practical steps would make good sense for immediately beneficial impact and your nervous system regulation.

    3. Whenever you want to make deeper shifts at “root cause” level such as transform impactful life experiences, memories, rules and core beliefs, we will do that with the therapy approaches we planned out in our route map.

    4. As we go, I’ll be on the lookout for wherever there are opportunities in your day to day life for you to implement and embed the transformative shifts you experience in session. This could be new internal or external habits. I’ll ensure you feel sturdy enough to make these “in real life” changes by introducing you to confidence boosting strategies and skills that you can of course practice on me as your guinea pig!

Whenever you feel ready to pause or complete sessions, we’ll create a clear template, learning summary and guide for your future self that brings everything together, not just on paper but in your body-mind-brain too - so it’s properly installed for you to swiftly access whenever its relevant.

  • This will depend on how many issues you’d like to address and your courage to actively experiment with different ways of responding in your everyday life.

Research recommends booking a course of six sessions at a time, then review progress, set new aims and deepen the journey, should you wish, in further blocks of six.

If you’re seeking help with a challenge that’s recently arisen, or you have a very specific aim, then six to twelve sessions may well be plenty.

  • For effectively addressing several aims, long-standing patterns, or if you struggle with major avoidance, it’s realistic to plan for deeper work to help you truly heal and empower yourself.

Some people decide to go on a longer teamwork journey, where I start as a therapist and coach, and then become an on ongoing mentor or  ‘life-path guide’. It’s wonderful to develop a secure team relationship of progressive wisdom and depth.

  • I’m here to help you transform your life, and realistically, this takes effort from both of us.

I am here to guide, support and encourage you to bring out your best self, not hand over your power to me!

Having the awareness that it’s easy for all of us to inadvertently play out victim/rescuer dynamics means we can gently spot it when it first starts happening and come back to a healthy exchange of equals.

Constructive, lasting and fantastic change happens as an outcome of my clients owning their own positive power, taking response-ability for their own wellness, being courageous to do things a bit differently, and making more consistent commitment to their own growth.

Greater maturity, wisdom and empowerment develops this way and that’s exciting!

  • In my experience, it’s easier to make a clear bridge from sessions into your important key life areas when you’re already IN them – whether you’re speaking with me from your home, office or local park.

My clients tell me it’s helpful to find simple ways to support their body and mind to come out of tiredness, overwhelm or fogginess in order to make best use of their sessions. And that’s usually much easier to achieve online or on the phone, where there so many creative choices become possible.

Many of my clients like to alternate between doing some stretches, going for a stroll, watering plants, doing a bit of arts or crafts, even lifting a few weights while we talk.

These are all very practical ways of re-energising and becoming more connected to the present moment, your whole body and your real-life environment while we talk.

  • Short answer, yes! If not more so.

Rather than coming to the bubble of the therapist’s office, by working online or on the phone in their everyday environments, my clients tell me they find session content feels more relevant and transferable to their real life.

During sessions, I’ll be actively on the lookout for relevant opportunities for you to take fresh actions in your home and work life that enable you to:

    • Connect to yourself with greater confidence

    • Navigate your real-life contexts with more wisdom, in real time

    • Interact with the world around you with less hypervigilance and more groundedness

And of course it’s still the same real people - me and you – however we team up!

  • Creating a genuine team relationship that feels emotionally safe, connecting and calming is core to the way I work.

My friendly interpersonal style is about building a sense of safety, soothing and connection between us, the different parts of you and your nervous system.

I want to create a secure, stable and collaborative foundation for whatever tricky stuff we then tackle together.

Teamwork feels so much better that way – more pleasurable and comfortable.

  • My sessions aren’t cheap, no. That’s a reflection of my training and experience. You’re in a capable pair of hands.

It’s great to get my clients’ feedback that sessions leave them feeling more peaceful, grounded and empowered.

It’s a joy to hear they feel more equipped to move things forward in tangible ways, in both their personal and their professional lives.

My aim is for you to have really useful tools and breakthroughs to walk away with after every session, and that you experience a wholehearted connection that helps you release whatever no longer serves you.

    You can expect to gain:

    • More stability and balance despite challenging times

    • Wise and encouraging perspectives that strengthen you

    • A helpful relationship to your whole being so you don’t need to keep using those coping strategies that backfire on you.

    • Tangible differences in your life and the lives of other people around you through your enhanced presence, better mood and how you communicate

  • Absolutely. Sustainable change is one of my biggest priorities.

I want our work together to feel like a worthwhile investment of your time, energy and money.

My aim isn't to help you cope for a few weeks and then send you on your way.

It's to help you understand yourself more deeply, trust yourself more fully and leave with tools that enhance your Emotional Intelligence (EQ), strategies that foster your resilience and nuanced interpersonal skills that enrich your connections - all of which you can keep drawing on long after our sessions have ended.

Life will continue to throw curveballs your way (annoying, but true). Together, we'll help you build the self-awareness and inner resources to navigate them with greater steadiness, rather than feeling knocked off course every time they arrive.

  • Yes. I work with many neurodivergent clients, including people with ADHD, autism, dyslexia and highly sensitive nervous systems.

I identify as neurodivergent with dyscalculia and being an HSP - a highly sensitive person, with all the wonder and challenge that goes with feeling, hearing, sensing things ten fold! I find it very easy to sense, feel and tune in with other people as a consequence of my high sensitivity. Bobbles on clothing and people chewing though - aaaargh!

Rather than seeing neurodivergence as something that needs to be "fixed", I focus on understanding how your brain, nervous system and life experiences interact, how we can leverage the gifts your neurodiversity gives you, and how we can work around, work with or gently quieten the challenges and overstimulation points.

Together, we'll explore what genuinely supports your wellbeing, relationships, work and day-to-day life.

My background in Occupational Therapy, neurobiology and nervous system regulation means I can adapt our work to suit your needs, energy levels and preferred ways of processing information. We'll build on your strengths, work compassionately with challenges and find practical approaches that fit who you are.

As with all my work, the aim is to help you understand yourself more deeply and create a life that feels more sustainable and fulfilling for you.

  • Yes. I welcome people of all gender and sexual orientations and mutually consenting sexual communities to use therapy with me as a space to safely think through, process, navigate and celebrate topics related to identity and exploration.

I see myself as pan sexual and I understand a sense of gender fluidity.

EMDR therapy in particular can be hugely helpful in my professional and personal experience, to release things like the lingering shadow of shaming experiences. And to feel more deeply anchored in our own own authentic sense of self rather than being so emotionally impacted by other peoples judgements and assumptions.

I have personal and professional experience of helping people make decisions in relation to surgery and hormone therapy where this impacts people’s sense of sexual or gender identity. I would be so pleased to thoughtfully and caringly accompany you alongside significant and vulnerable decisions such as these.

  • Yes. I work with people from many different relationship structures and identities including those who are part of kink, BDSM, polyamorous and consensually non-monogamous relationships.

I know from my own lived experience that, like any relationship configuration, these dynamics can bring joy, connection, growth and fulfilment, as well as communication challenges, boundary questions, loss, conflict and misunderstanding. It’s inevitable sooner or later!

The key thing is helping our own nervous system shift back into feeling states of emotional safety and security inside ourselves so we can bring our emotional intelligence intuition and nuance back on line, and from there, make some wise decisions.

That could be about better repair or clearer communication or it could be about doing some inner child or trauma healing work.

Together, we can thoughtfully consider what would help you go to the next level of relational nourishment.

I’m very glad of all the mentors who’ve helped me learn to own my yes and no and the right to change ones boundaries.

Boundaries, consent and sovreignty work to build our self respect is so core to living with dignity and discernment, whatever our orientations and identities may be.

In my experience BDSM and poly relationships can be a remarkable opportunity to explore this.

I have trained in Betty Martins Wheel of Consent and I can’t wait to share this with you if it feels relevant to your relational life.

  • No because you're not broken.

Most people who come to me aren't broken. They're stuck. Stuck in overwhelm, old patterns, difficult circumstances, painful experiences or ways of coping that once made sense but no longer serve them.

Having said that, I do also have deep holding capacity to accompany peopleon their dark night of the soul, and I have a first hand understanding of what it does subjectively feel like to experience a sense of being completely burnt out, or pretty much on ones knees and that feels a lot more awful than just “stuck”. I love the quote “blessed are the cracked for they shall let in the light”. Eleanor means light in Gaelic. I’d love to shine a light for you and help you find your own.

Life will continue to be beautifully messy and occasionally downright ridiculous. The goal isn't to become a perfectly healed human who never struggles again. It's to help you understand yourself more deeply, respond to challenges more skilfully and feel better equipped for whatever life throws your way.

I want you to leave our work together feeling more like yourself, not like someone you've spent years trying to become.

  • Therapy often focuses on healing, recovery and understanding patterns, while coaching is typically more future-focused and action-oriented.

Because I’m trained in both, we can thoughtfully blend the two where appropriate.
